Cancer : Diagnosis, Treatment, Prevention
In this film, the cure was found in the depths of the Amazon Jungle. This disease causes suffering everywhere it is found. While we do know about some of the causes of cancer, no-one can predict who, where or when it will be triggered.
There are theories that we all have it and it just takes something to start it off, but what is cancer? Well, it is a disease that’s characterized by a large number of cells that continue to grow and divide.
Benign tumors do not normally grow larger, metastasize or threaten the body and organs like malignant (cancerous) tumors do although it is possible for a malignant tumor to have started out as benign. The disease may affect people of all ages, there is an increased risk of suffering from the more common cancers as you get older. Cancerous cells may have been transformed by radiation or poison for example and this creates genetic abnormality in those cells which then continue to grow and divide.
For some people the problem lies not with any form of external poison although faults with their parents DNA or genetic makeup can result in a person being born with the diseased cells. It is still not fully understood why one person will contract the disease and another be free from it but it is believed that the interactions between any carcinogens and each person’s particular DNA is complicated.
Owing to this ongoing, worldwide research, we do actually know a considerable amount about cancer even if we are some way from finding a complete and consistent cure. Once scientists discover the reason behind why some individuals are more likely to contract a disease than others, we may be closer to creating a cure. We all want to know more about the causes of cancer what we can do to help prevent this illness from striking.
Some believe it may even be causing a large number of cases in certain groups of people. Calcium from dairy products is thought to be possible cause of prostrate cancer in males.
No-one is immune from cancer. It can affect anyone at some time in a person’s life. Usually the cancer is at an early stage and a person may have a better chance of being cured. Cancer is not the certain death sentence it once was and although many of its various forms are incurable at this time, medical science continues to improve.
